Ao Andon

Illustration created for the Weekly Step Challenge. The themes were "Feminity, Candle and Macabre". This illustrates the legend of the Ao Andon Yokai. This old Japanese demon is said to appear at the end of the ritual of the 100 candles, or the 100 fantastic stories. The participants gather in circle, at night, with a candle in front of them. one by one, they tell a horror story and blow one's candle. When the very last candle is blow and when the terror is at its highest point, the Ao Andon appears and ends the ritual.. Whether the demon kills the storytellers or just scares them is up to your interpretation ! :-)
